I'm convinced that education is of a low priority in California. It seems that every time the state is in a financial crunch, one of the first places to make cuts is in education. This has become a bad habit and it has to stop. We (Californians) need to start sending strong messages to our law makers that they need to get their priorities straight. What are your thoughts on this topic?

I agree, So I ask you if we don't equally or we don't cut in education which other area do we cut twice as much out of?

I know that many house hold budgets at being tightening just as the state has to do this year. Do you suggest incuring more debt to be passed on to our children?

The answers are not easy. But education is important, does that include arts and sports?
You're so right Julie. I'd like to see the cuts come from our lawmakers pockets instead of what is important, such as education. Out of control spending by our government always results the taxpayer suffering, instead of the true source. Until we do stand up, everyone together in California, our government here in California will continue to spend, spend, spend and us taxpayers will continue to pay for it!

We can all start by calling our local representatives and letting them know their Pink Slips are in the mail in 2010 if they don't start working FOR THE PEOPLE, instead of for themselves!
Maybe it's a feedback loop:
Californians aren't smart enough to value education. Education budgets get cut. Californians get a poorer education. Californians become stupider. Repeat ad infinitum.

Actually, it's not just California. The United States is on a path to losing its position as a world leader. American companies have been complaining about the lack of qualified job applicants for a while now. Its not going to get better for a long time if ever.
I've found education starts at home w/ the parents. Kids can still get a great education w/ parent envolvement. I see the breakdown of the family unit as big of an issue. Need to set priorities and don't expect the state to do it for you.
Unfortunately educational cuts are wide in all states, but yes, California is doing a lot to the system, not just K12 but universities as well. In truth, California has the best and largest university system and now with the cuts, the CSU and UC's have had to do without and it trickles down to the students. I am an educator both of K12 and university and I can tell you, it is not good and yes, our children are suffering-----why is it that in this country we value education the least and all else more?
Because in this state your suppose to search for your Education to get the Goal Complete!!
